The light comes assembled and you can cut the cord to the length you want it to hang down before wiring it into a ceiling box (or wall box and hanging it from hook). I suggest NOT cutting the cord but rather coiling it up under the ceiling box cover so you can relocate it if you change your mind about location. To me the fixture feels cheap

Love my lamp. I don't want to take up too much space in my apartment and this light is great. The light is also very good!

Unfortunately, the of the lamp is much Light dark . The quality is okay, but the lamp is a bit too expensive for what you get. Lamp 3 stars. But the customer service is really very nice and attentive. :)
